Studies on Bolting of Stored Seeds of Radish (Raphanus sativus L.)

Abstract
Seeds stored in a desiccator with calcium chloride for 1 year and newly harvested ones were germinated and treated immediately with low temperature at 4, 10 and 15¡É for 10 days in order to clarify the varietal cold requirement between new and stored seeds of radish. The seeds of 10 varieties were sown on July 20. The results are summarized as follows:
1. The bolting rate of stored seeds was higher than that of newly harvested seeds at 4, 10 and 15¡É temperature treatment in all varieties.
2. All newly harvested seeds and the stored seeds of late bolted varieties, Yeonggwang, Altari and Minowase showed vegetative growth at 15¡É treatment but the stored seeds of early bolted varieties, Jinju-daepyeong, Euseong-bancheong, Jungguk-cheongpi and Yonghyeon showed high bolting rate.
3. 10¡É was more effective than 4¡É for vernalization treatment of stored seeds in Korean true varieties for fall cropping.
